The February Winter Retreat, "Keep Calm and Stay Cool" is scheduled to take place at Sorrento Centre, February 6-9, 2015. This weekend is for youth and young adults ages 13-25 and is being organized by Sorrento Centre, the British Columbia and Yukon Anglican Youth Movement and the Diocese of New Westminster Youth Movement. Louise Peters is this year’s theme speaker!
The Cathedral is offering to pay half of the $150 registration fee for any youth or young adult who wants to attend this retreat. All you need to do is register online (register soon as space is limited!) and under "further description of payment" write that St. Paul's Cathedral will cover half of the cost. You pay for the other half however works best for you! (Don't let the cost keep you from attending: talk to Melissa if this is a concern!). Cathedral Committee Selection Process – Members of the Cathedral Committee are either appointed or elected at our annual vestry meeting. Those elected to one year terms are the People’s Warden, two Delegates to the Assembly of the Anglican Parishes of the Central Interior, two Alternate Delegates and two Youth Delegates. Elected for two years terms, each year, are three Members at Large. This allows for a total of six Members at Large at any time. Our next vestry meeting is scheduled for February 15, 2015. We ask that you prayerfully consider being a part of this important ministry in our communal life at St. Paul’s. If you are interested please speak to the nominating committee: Kathryn Brisco, Islay Oatway or Verna Albright.

CAN THERE BE A MIDDLE TO THE MIDDLE EAST?

The Rev. Canon Dr. Richard LeSueur

In the wake of another tragic episode of violence between Gaza and Israelthis past summer, and disturbing trends sweeping across Syria and Iraq, one wonders whether this region can ever know peace. In this one address Richard will draw on his first-hand experience of recent history in Israel/Palestine, and provide an overview of the past century with maps and charts that illustrate the fundamental changes underway.

The Rev. Canon Dr. Richard LeSueur
Richard is a former resident of Jerusalem. He continues to facilitate programs of pilgrimage and study in the biblical lands annually. He was the former Director of the Desert Program at St. George’s CollegeJerusalem, and serves as adjunct faculty with Trinity CollegeToronto. He is the rector of St. George, Cadboro BayVictoria

A Workshop at St. Paul’s Cathedral with The Rev. Canon Dr. Richard LeSueur
360 Nicola St. Kamloops BC

Monday February 23 2015
9:30 am – 11:30 am

A new reality has quietly but powerfully come on the stage of Western experience.  It is being described as a renaissance in pilgrimage. Thousands of footfalls are occurring on the ancient routes. One cannot know whether the attraction is towards the new and novel, the physical challenge, curiosity, or whether something deeper is taking place. Has a searching and longing in our culture in turn become a journeying? For decades the Christian community has been singing hymns of being a people on a journey, fellow travellers on the road. Perhaps that is truer today than ever before. In multiple ways, a contemporary rediscovery is underway that our name is indeed, pilgrim.

Join us at the Cathedral for this exploration of the practice of pilgrimage.  It is a free event and all are welcome!.
Please pre-register by calling:  250 372 3912 or by emailing stpaulscathedral@shawbiz.ca

Richard LeSueur has been facilitating programs of pilgrimage for more than 30 years, principally in the Middle East. He was the former Director of the Desert Program at St. George’s CollegeJerusalem. This past summer he presented a paper at the First Global Conference on Sacred Journey at OxfordUK. He serves as adjunct faculty with Trinity CollegeToronto and is rector of St. George, Cadboro BayVictoria.
