Confirmation:
Confirmation is the public
affirmation of one’s baptismal commitment symbolized by the public profession
of faith and commitment and the reception of the ancient symbol of the Laying
on of Hands by the Bishop. The Laying on of Hands signifies the giving of
the Holy Spirit to equip the confirmand with God’s help to fulfill baptismal
promises and life in the faith. Confirmation is offered to those who are
baptized and who are at least 12 years up through adulthood. St. Paul’s has
engaged in a confirmation program that pairs each confirmand with a mentor who
walks, prays and journeys with the student in their preparation and exploration
of faith and commitment. This has been a very successful and rewarding
process for both the confirmands and mentors. Confirmation is usually
offered every two years and scheduled on a Holy day when the Bishop is present.
We will be holding a service
of Confirmation on Palm Sunday April 13, 2014.
Making Disciples – A
confirmation journey will be offered for young people 12 –
16.
This
program partners a young person with an adult mentor. Together they walk
through a committed comprehensive and fun program that explores spirituality,
faith, the bible and God. Partners meet together individually, with all
participants gathering every other week for whole group programs and social
time. These classes will begin mid February. If you would
like to be part of the confirmation class, please contact the Cathedral office
at 250-372-3912.
Deadline for registration (so we can order materials and train mentors): February 5, 2014. If you would like to be involved in reaffirming your baptismal and confirmation vows, please speak to the Dean or contact the office.
