Book Chat: Without Guarantee: In Search of a Vulnerable God

Book Chat:  January 19th, following the 10 am service.
Without Guarantee: in search of a vulnerable God
There are two questions people often ask, sometimes plaintively, sometimes angrily:
          Why doesn't God fix life?
What does it mean, really, to say "God is love"?
Bob Purdy's new book speaks directly to those two questions. He begins with two assumptions: that love in human experience is always vulnerable, and that power is defined for us by our experience of domination power, which means control and manipulation enforced by some kind of violence.
If love is vulnerable, then God also must be vulnerable. That means open to hurt, rejection, misunderstanding and failure. That is the opposite of domination power.
Bob then explores that vulnerable divine love in relation to prayer, authority, evolution, justice and Jesus.
Bob Purdy is a retired priest and archdeacon, now living near Grand Forks. Join him and others from the Cathedral congregation to explore Without Guarantee on Sunday January 19th after 10 am worship. Gine Rose has a few copies of the book for sale, if you wish to read it before the study event.
