Building on the strength of the experience and the fine materials gleaned at the October 28, 2013 Revision Day, we will reconvene to discern the future ministry of St. Paul’s Cathedral.

At the Fall Gathering we spent time in small  groups to reflect on two questions:
            * What is your experience at St. Paul’s Cathedral NOW?
            * What is the Church you hope to see?

The common ‘key words’ from the NOW experience included sentiments of caring, support, affirmation, community, family, diversity, welcoming, friendly, spirit-filled, warmth, nourishing, boring, out of date, renewing.   This helps us define who we are as the Cathedral community:  as the body of Christ.

The common ‘key words’ from what people HOPE TO SEE for our Church were grouped into 8 Themes. The 8 Themes were: Outreach; Youth; Sustainability; Inclusiveness; Relevance; Spirituality; Worship; Leadership.  This helps us understand what our ministry as God’s people is  and is to be into the future.

Our Day together on February 1, 2014 will use these 8 themes, these 8 ministries, and build a deeper understanding of the future directions we are to go as a church.  We will explore what God wants of us, and how this ministry will be done.

Please join us.  It promises to be another fine day of prayer, laughter, exploration and discernment.  Your voice and input are VITAL.  We want as many folks to attend as are able.  If you were not at the fall day, no worries!  All are welcome and we want everyone’s input and presence.

Please pre-register and let us know you are coming, by calling the office, or emailing us at:  stpaulscathedral@shawbiz.ca

Thoughts from Youth Group...

Last week at youth group our Young People reflected on these questions:
What word do you want to carry with you this year?
What word will be your inspiration this year?
What word will you hold before you as you seek to discover it in the world?

... Balance... Joy... Creativity... Gratitude... Abundance... Hope... Adventure... Love...

We invite you to reflect with us... What word are you carrying with you into this year? And maybe you'll feel like finding a creative way to help you remember your word like we did!

Book Chat: Without Guarantee: In Search of a Vulnerable God

Book Chat:  January 19th, following the 10 am service.
Without Guarantee: in search of a vulnerable God
There are two questions people often ask, sometimes plaintively, sometimes angrily:
          Why doesn't God fix life?
What does it mean, really, to say "God is love"?
Bob Purdy's new book speaks directly to those two questions. He begins with two assumptions: that love in human experience is always vulnerable, and that power is defined for us by our experience of domination power, which means control and manipulation enforced by some kind of violence.
If love is vulnerable, then God also must be vulnerable. That means open to hurt, rejection, misunderstanding and failure. That is the opposite of domination power.
Bob then explores that vulnerable divine love in relation to prayer, authority, evolution, justice and Jesus.
Bob Purdy is a retired priest and archdeacon, now living near Grand Forks. Join him and others from the Cathedral congregation to explore Without Guarantee on Sunday January 19th after 10 am worship. Gine Rose has a few copies of the book for sale, if you wish to read it before the study event.
