Parish Update: October 30, 2015

Hello St. Paul’s Family
Here are a few things you may need to know.


Day light savings time – Saturday Night!
Fall back people – fall back! Turn your clocks back 1 hour J

 
Soup- OUR FREEZER IS EMPTY!!!!!
The visitors requiring soup have not slowed down with the change of the season and even with the generous additions from the Sorrento Centre kitchen we are completely out!! If you can please refill the freezer with soup. There are empty yogurt containers in the kitchen.

Congratulations to The Reverends Tom and Sandra Sugden on their recent installation as Canons.



St. Paul's Artists bring you images from Ordinary Time. In a two phase exhibit (October and January) during the seasons of Ordinary Time, we explore the holy in the everyday and everywhere. We invite you to consider life between the highs and lows and how it is that we find God in those spaces. From Oct 17 -Nov 21 and from Jan 11- Feb 9 creative works on this theme will hang in the sanctuary.  For more information contact Jennifer Ste Marie (250-578-7595)



Out of the Cold - The out of the cold program will operate this year on both Sunday and Wednesday nights. We are going to need more volunteers to help run this extra day. Volunteers are needed in the following areas: making beds, cooking, making breakfast, morning clean up and more! If you are interested please contact Bud Forbes @ 250-573-3430 or Christine Jeffries @ 250 318-0236 or come to the 


REMEMBRANCE DAY MEMORIES

Join us for a delicious dinner, followed by Songs and Stories from the War 
Years.  All are welcome.  Sunday November 8, at 5 pm.St. Paul’s Cathedral, 
360 Nicola Street.

Parish members are welcome to November 10th Peace & Justice lunch meeting to be held at Painted Pony Restaurant @ 11:30 followed by tour of Boys and Girls club , John Tod Centre, 150 Wood St, North Kamloops.  The Boys and Girls club was our May Outreach and we are following up with them for a tour of their new facilities. Photos depicting who, what, where or how you are/have been inspired in faith and hope on your journey through this year of change at St. Paul’s.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: NOVEMBER 8TH
RECIPIENTS AWARDED: NOVEMBER 22ND
GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS:
  • Entry is open to all of God’s people.
  • Entries are to be submitted by the photographer
  • Entries are to have been taken within the current year – 2015.
  • Entries are limited to four (4) per person.
  • Please include your name, phone number on the back of the photo.
  •  A title and/or comments as to why the entry depicts FOOD FOR THE JOURNEY are encouraged.
  • Please indicate if you wish your photographs returned.
  • First, second and third place will be acknowledged with a certificate.
  • Two “Honourable Mentions” not already placed in top 3 will also be acknowledged with a certificate.
  • All acknowledged photographs will appear in St. Paul’s Circular.
  • All photographs will be displayed in the cathedral
  •  4 x 6 prints may be dropped off at 360 Nicola Street.

Creating Trustworthy Communities - “A Workshop on Interpersonal Relationships, Boundaries and Communication Skill Development”
DATE: Saturday, November 28, 2015. 
TIME:  9 am – 5 pm
PLACE: St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral, 360 Nicola St., Kamloops, BC
Lunch will be provided.  Please bring a notebook and pen. 
There is NO CHARGE to attend; this event is open to anyone who is interested.
Clergy, Wardens, Pastoral Elders, Lay Ministers of Word & Sacrament, Youth Leaders, Sunday school teachers, and Parish Volunteers should attend this workshop.   Certificates will be issued to all participants at the end of training day; the certificate is valid for three years. Please pre-register by calling 250-376-3243 (St. George's.)  Thank you!

ITALIAN COOKING CLASS with Rose Roy, Saturday Oct 24, 2015 at 10 am.  Come and learn to make Gnocchi (Italian dumpling) and about a couple of sauces.  Cost is $20/person and you leave with enough to feed 4-6 people.  Cost is $20.  Contact Elaine Parkes at 250-374-2316 or erparkes@shaw.ca.  Class size is limited to 15 people.

“What can YOU learn at Sorrento Centre?”

You don’t have to stop learning just because the summer is over. Check out the following fun fall program.


SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8 - WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2015
Silent Directed Retreatwith Rick McCorrister

his will be a time to enter into silence through the practice of inner stillness, prayer, and reflection with a trusted spiritual director/companion.
We will begin Sunday evening with an orientation to the retreat time: what to expect, any questions or concerns about how to be in silence, how will the days flow, times for spiritual direction each day. We will end our time with a prayer/worship time for entering the stillness.
Monday and Tuesday we will be in silence. We will have a prayer time each morning and evening to give structure to our day. In addition there will be opportunity each day for each participant to meet with Rick for a spiritual direction time.
Meals will also be in silence. Wednesday morning we will use our Morning Prayer time as our coming out of silence ritual. The rest of the morning will be a time to debrief the experience of practicing inner stillness. We will also spend time reflecting on the transition from this time of silent retreat into our regular lives beyond Sorrento. We will conclude with lunch together.

Registration Information
Course Fee: $572 includes instruction, meals Sunday supper through Wednesdaylunch, and single based accommodation.
